Abstract

Background/Objectives: This paper is focused on the study of the meaning of life, personal well-being and self-satisfaction of a person in the sociological context. Methods/Statistical analysis: The methodological basis of the study is formed by the fundamental ideas of theoretical sociology, comparative analysis, and interdisciplinary approach. The study is based on the conceptual works and the research results of Russian and foreign authors relating to the analysis of well-being and self-satisfaction. As the empirical method, we have used questionnaires. The sampling was formed on the basis of statistical data according to the All-Russia Classifier of Economic Activities. The sample frame for the 95% confidence coefficient and the 5% confidence interval consisted of 1,354 respondents. The article presents the results of the correlation analysis. Findings: On the basis of the developed methodology of the study, it has been found that women’s group is experiencing anxiety concerning their future. The state of self-satisfaction and self-dissatisfaction is influenced by the management style. The connivance of authorities causes dissatisfaction. The young women also feel themselves dissatisfied when the management is authoritarian. The male manager’s influence is considered by women under 30 as negative. Men under 30, as well as the men and women aged 40 to 49 years were experiencing satisfaction from the male management. This distribution is associated with a high degree of professional maturity that brings satisfaction, as appreciated by the male manager. Personal communication with the manager is important in a greater degree for women and young men. The satisfaction indices are influenced by gender, which determines the novelty of the study. Application/Improvements: The results obtained in the study make it possible to complete the picture of the well-being of individuals and the self-satisfaction in sociology terms. Results of the study can be used in further work on the happiness sociology, as well as on gender-based issues.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: This paper aims to study the sociological characteristics of gender culture, which is considered as a social inheritance program. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The methodological basis of the study consists of the fundamental ideas of theoretical sociology, comparative analysis and interdisciplinary approach. The study is based on the conceptual work and the results of studies of Russian and foreign authors dedicated to the analysis of gender, gender culture and gender stereotypes. As an empirical method, the questionnaire surveys have been used. The article presents the results of studying stereotyped statements. Findings: Based on the study methodology, it has been found that the respondents' worldview is gender-stereotyped regarding both women and men. Some of the stereotypes about women say that they are inconsistent and capricious. The stereotype is that the woman does not necessarily need to "make a career"; the priority for her is the children and the family, despite the active involvement of women in business. Stereotypes about men include the fear to be recognized as non-professionals and the cold-bloodedness. Men are afraid of losing their masculinity. Both groups of respondents share the stereotype that men have a larger number of personal leadership qualities than the women. But at the same time, the study of personal qualities of the male leader and female leader shows that there are no differences between both groups of respondents. Comparison of the results of the study of stereotypical statements about the personal qualities of the leader and the real qualities of the leaders of different sexes has shown implicit contradictions of gender stereotypes. Application/Improvements: The obtained results are quite unique as gender culture is considered as a social inheritance program. This approach is innovative, so the results have considerable theoretical and practical importance. They not only complement the idea of gender culture, gender stereotypes within the framework of sociology, but also fundamentally change the approach to the interpretation of gender studies.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: The article aims to examine the gender aspects of “subjectivity” that reveal themselves both in the private and public spheres of the sociological domain. Methods: interdisciplinary approach, comparative analysis and basis of theoretical sociology. The study is based on the main works and findings of Russian and foreign authors considering the analysis of gender practices and organizational culture. Questionnaires were used as an empirical method. The sample was formed using the statistical data according to the Russian National Classifier of Economic Activities. The sample included 1354 respondents. The article presents the findings of correlation analysis. Findings: The developed methodology enabled us to identify the influence of the style of management on self-satisfaction. In the public area, occur objective and subjective factors that have a significant importance for the satisfaction and fulfillment. The objective factors include gender and organizational culture. Such an indicator of organizational culture, as a style of leadership, has an effects on the self-satisfaction. The laissez-faire management style leads to dissatisfaction. Women show higher appreciation of the less authoritarian management. At the same time, young women are dissatisfied with a male boss, which complicates the implementation of subjectivity. Young men, like older men and women, on the contrary, enjoy the male leadership. This can be explained by a high degree of professional maturity. Communication with the boss is more important for women and young men. The forces guiding the company’s development have the largest impact on the satisfaction and fulfillment of men. The company’s philosophy and mission have a positive correlation with fulfillment only for young women. The satisfaction depends on organizational culture and gender – the agents of the public sphere, – which represents the novelty of the study. Improvement: The research results can be used in further work with private and public sociology and the sociology of gender.
